One night while we were playing a game together as a family Andrew held the dice in his hands and put them close to his mouth and said in a deep growl, "My Precious" then rolled them on the table. A little too much Lord of the Rings, maybe!?

Superintendent SCORE Award

Cameron never ceases to amaze us.  At home he is a great kid, but somehow when he goes to school he turns into an angel.  Seriously, when his teachers gush about how wonderful he is I am definitely proud, but I also wonder, are we talking about the same kid?  Cameron can give us a run for our money that's for sure, but we also couldn't be more proud of him! 

This last Wednesday Cameron was awarded the April Superintendent SCORE award.  This award is intended to recognize a student for achievement in diversity, acceptance and cultural awareness.  All nominations are submitted to the School District Superintendent for consideration.  Cameron's teacher, Mrs. Mary, submitted a nomination on his behalf and here is what she had to say about him:

"Cameron has an exceptionally keen sense of compassion for others.  He unconditionally supports all students and adults.  His encouraging words are always filled with kindness and smiles.  Cameron is our class conscience, taking some bold steps to help eliminate barriers that prevent racial diversity in our classroom and school.  Cameron is contributing personally to help ensure that all students are treated equally to succeed in a global economy.  In turn, he is supporting more students to feel safe and respected in our school". 

We couldn't be more proud of our son!  This is his 2nd Superintendent SCORE award so whatever he is doing, he is doing it well.  Congratulations Cameron, we love you!!

2012 Pinewood Derby

I have to say, there were some pretty clever vehicles that showed up to this year's Pinewood Derby!  I don't know if you could necessarily classify Austin's creation as a "vehicle", it more or less looked like a golf ball on wheels, but Spencer was convinced that this was the ticket.  Not really knowing if Spencer's idea would work or not, we anxiously watched it's first run down the track and let out a sigh of relief when it appeared to be alright.  In the end it was more than just alright.  He remained undefeated until the final run against Gordon who was undefeated as well.  Gordon came out on top and Austin took 2nd place.  He was pretty thrilled with 2nd place, and I was really proud of the way all the kids showed support for each other.  Being able to lose graciously is definitely a great lesson to learn early in life!

Portland Trailblazers

A couple months ago Spencer felt the urge to buy some Blazer tickets and found a great deal online for a few games.  He bought tickets so he could see the Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Utah Jazz all play against Portland.  The first game, Portland vs. Miami, Spencer took Austin with him because they really wanted to see Lebron James play.  I got a date out of game #2; Oklahoma City vs. Portland.  Spencer took me shopping at the Lloyd Center, dinner at Applebees, and then to the Rose Garden for the game.  Game #3 is next week when we play against Utah and I am looking forward to it.  I have to admit, I could get used to this life of going to games frequently.  Basketball games are so exciting.  Maybe someday when we strike it rich we'll be able to buy season tickets for our family.  That would be awesome!

Just as a side note, when Spencer & Austin walked in to the Rose Garden, a man approached them and asked Austin if he would like to participate in the half time show.  They were looking for 3 kids who were willing to dress in over-sized b-ball shorts and a jersey and then the first one to make a basket would win a free happy meal once a week, for an entire year.  Austin graciously declined.  He is not a performer.  Now if Cameron had been there, I guarantee he would have been all over it!
